Welcome to the Prospect Community Early Education and Care blog.
We’re delighted you’ve found us.
We are a community-run, not-for-profit early education and care service located in Prospect, South Australia. For more than 30 years our purpose has remained simple: to provide children with a place where they feel safe, respected, valued and inspired to explore the world around them.
While this blog shares the name of our centre, it is about much more than our service.
It is a place where we hope to document our journey, celebrate our community, share our thinking, and contribute to the ongoing conversation about what quality early childhood education can look like.
Why start a blog?
In early childhood education we spend countless hours creating, planning, reflecting and learning.
Some of our greatest ideas emerge from conversations between educators over lunch or morning tea. Others are inspired by children’s questions, family feedback or the unexpected moments that happen throughout the day.
Too often those ideas stay within the walls of one service.
We believe they are worth sharing.
This blog gives us the opportunity to slow down, reflect and explain not only what we do, but why we do it.
Sometimes we’ll celebrate successes.
Sometimes we’ll write honestly about challenges.
Sometimes we’ll change our minds.
Because quality improvement is never about having all the answers—it’s about remaining curious enough to keep asking questions.
What you can expect
Over time we’ll share stories about:

You’ll also find reflections that may challenge traditional thinking.
We believe meaningful learning cannot always be captured through photographs or documentation. Sometimes the most important work happens when educators put the camera down, sit on the floor, listen deeply and simply be present with children.
We’ll explore these ideas openly and honestly.
Our philosophy
At the heart of everything we do is a belief that childhood should never be rushed.
Children learn best when they feel secure, connected and genuinely known by the adults around them.
Relationships come before routines.
Connection comes before curriculum.
Belonging comes before achievement.
When children experience these things, learning naturally follows.
Our practice is guided by the principles of the Early Years Learning Framework, the National Quality Framework and our own Philosophy of Education—a living document developed by our educators, families and community that continues to evolve alongside us.
Sharing, not showcasing
This blog isn’t intended to suggest that we’ve perfected early childhood education.
Far from it.
Like every service, we’re continually learning, adapting and improving.
Our hope is that by sharing our journey—the successes, the reflections, the projects that worked and even those that didn’t—we might encourage conversations with other educators, families and communities who are equally passionate about giving children the very best start in life.
If something we share inspires another service, sparks a discussion, or encourages someone to see children from a different perspective, then this blog has achieved exactly what we hoped.
